This has to be out most favourite old-school R&B track ever!! We can remember this was on the radio all the time when we were kids (we grew up with teenage uncles and aunties so we were very current with trends and music).
Mark Morrison was one of the most successful British Urban/R&B singers of the mid 90's. His breakthrough single 'Return of the Mack" became a top 10 hit across Europe in 1996 and opened up the market for him in the U.S the following year. Although he became a commercial success nearly overnight, his career was plagued by run-ins with the law that prevented him from consolidating his position as a star.
Ironically, if it wasn't for jail, Morrsion wouldn't have pursed a career in music at all. He decided to become a vocalist in 1995 while serving a 3 month sentence for causing an incident at a club. Following his release, he entered the studio with a production team and released his first single "Crazy". This quickly became a club favourite and Top 20 hit in Britain. It was then to be followed by the smash hit "Return of the Mack" which lead Morrsion to become the first black male solo artist to reach number one in the 90's.
Although his career was going well, Morrison was constantly in trouble with the law, culminating in an arrest for trying to bring a stun gun onto a plane. He was convicted and sent to jail again in early 1997. Around the same time, he received 4 Brit Award nominations (in which he didn't win any) and "Return of the Mack" began to climb to No.2 on the U.S charts. This debut album, also titled "Return of the Mack" followed and peaked at No.4. Over the following years, Morrison recorded sporadically and wasn't nearly as successful commercially. He released "Innocent Man" in 2006 and " I am what I Am" in 2010.
In our experience, this is one of the most requested mid 90's singles to download and request in a club. Dj's remixing this song with the instrumental track turns any set into a sensual groove as it's indefinable beat makes everybody remember 'how much they love this song'
haha I actually do love this song and totally forgot about it!!
